HRD delegation visits IIT site in AP

Hyderabad, July 17 (UNI) The five-member site identification committee under Human Resource Department (HRD) Joint Secretary Ravi Kumar today visited Kandi Viillage in Sanga Reddy District where the state government had allotted land for setting up of an IIT.

Speaking to newspersons after a meeting with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy here, Mr Ravi said the purpose of the visit was to examine the feasibility and suitability of the location besides the availablity of infrastructure and water.

He said the Centre would expedite the process for setting up the IIT to start the courses at the earliest, Dr Reddy also gave an assurance to provide a temporary facility for accomodating the IIT pending completion of construction work.

The entire funding for the new IIT would come from the Centre. He said more than Rs 1,000 crore was needed to set up the IIT in the next seven years.
