Homeguard commits suicide

Kanpur, July 17 (UNI) Driven by abject poverty, a homeguard allegedly committed suicide by shooting self with his licensed revolver here today.

P K Awasthi shot himself dead at his residence in Naubasta area, Police Superintendent Prakash Swaroop Pandey said.

His hastily scribbled suicide note said he was reeling under acute financial crises. He was a casual worker and had not been getting duties since the last couple of months. When he brought the matter to the seniors' notice, they wanted their palm to be greased.

Investigations regarding the case were underway.
