French firm makes presentation on light rail transit system
New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) A French company today made a demonstration of the Light rail transit system, being presented as an alternative mode of transport in the run up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games, at the Delhi Secretariat.
Speaking to mediapersons after the presentation by the ESIS company, Delhi Transport Minister Haroon Yousuf said a report on the viability of setting up a Light rail transit system in Delhi was being prepared by RITES which was expected to be presented to the government in October.
Under the proposal to set up the light rail transit system in Delhi, as part of the multi modal transport system, three corridors have been suggested - while the first is proposed between Dwarka and Mehrauli, the second between Mehrauli and Central Secretariat while the third is proposed between Badarpur and Mehrauli. The total length of the three corridors will be 45 km, which would contain 37 stations.
An investment of Rs 65 crore per Km is estimated on the project per km.
