Fire in Telephone Bhawan;services disrupted

Kolkata, Jul 17 (UNI) A fire broke out in the Telephone Bhawan here today, disrupting services in several parts of the city.

Fire brigade sources said the fire initially erupted in the battery room of the Bhawan and then spread to different parts of the building.

About eight fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the fire under control, the sources added.

All the major phone lines at the police headquarter in Lal Bazaar here were also affected.

The BSNL services and broadband services have also been affected due to the fire.

Telephone Bhawan officials said the main power plant of the building was closed down. It would take three to four hours to resume communication services in the city.

However, the reason of the fire had not been ascertained yet.
