10 years rigrous imprisonment for dowry killing

Jamtara, Jul 17 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a person to ten years rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife who failed to fulfil his dowry demand.

According to prosecution, deceased Sujata, of neighbouring Durgapur in West Bengal, was married to one Babulal of this district. She was burnt by her husband and in-laws on April nine, 2002 when she failed to fulfil their demand of Rs 10,000.

Later, she succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Asansol district of West Bengal.

Besides her husband, five of her in-laws were accused in the case.

The court of Additional District and Session Judge (first) Arun Kumar sentenced Babulal to ten years rigrous imprisonment after he was found guilty. The court had already acquitted the in-laws on the grounds of benefit on July 13, sources added.
