Two picked up for aiding kidnapping

Guwahati, July 16 (UNI) Karbi Anglong police have picked up two people, including a former homeguard, on charges of aiding the kidnapping of Cement Corporation of India officials.

Karbi Anglong SP Anurag Tankha said two people, fomer homeguard Nath and Harsing Temong, were spotted moving suspiciously on the night of the kidnapping.

Both had been detained at Dilai outpot.

The SP said extortion was the reason behind the kidnapping.

Suspected KLNLF militants had kidnapped eleven officials, including mine manager K N Jha, of the CCI plant at Bokajan last night.

Mr Jha died of cardiac arrest minutes after he was kidnapped, while the other officials were released subsequently eight km from the Sonapahar limestone quarry.

Mr Jha's post-mortem performed today confirmed that he died of heart failure.

Doctors also said he was hit with the gun barrel on the heart.

The Bokajan cement factory remained closed today expressing solidarity with the deceased mine manager.

Meanwhile, combing operation has been intensified in the area to nab the culprits, the SP added.
