Ten-point manifesto to popularise Hindi

New York, July 16 (UNI) The Eighth World Hindi Conference, besides urging the inclusion of Hindi as an official language at the United Nations, has formulated a ten-point manifesto to popularise the language.

1. In order to popularise learning of Hindi and 'Devnagari' script in foreign countries, a syllabus be made for teaching Hindi as the second language and arrangements be made to give recognition to Hindi teachers.

2. Administrative and Economic assistance to be given by the Indian and Mauritian governments to activate the working of the World Hindi Secretariat and making it goal-oriented; along with considering the opening of Regional Secretariats in Delhi and other countries. The Summit also urged the Secretariat to launch a Hindi Website at an international level.

3. Preparation of simple and useful books on science, technology and technical subjects in hindi should be encouraged. Effective means to popularise Hindi in areas of information and technology be developed. One commonly accepted unicode should be formulated which is present everywhere.

4 A database should be made of schools and universities in foreign countries where hindi is taught and a list of hindi teachers should be prepared.

5. This summit requests all Hindi loving people, specially NRIs and those working in Foreign countries, to propogate Hindi language and literature.

6. Mahatma Gandhi International University in Wardha, to provide research scholorship to foreign Hindi scholars.

7. The Central Hindi Organisations should make concerted efforts to popularise Hindi and and formulate the syllabus in foreign countries.

8. Discussions be held on introducing Hindi in the curriculum in foreign universities.

9. Along with literature, Hindi be made the language of science and commerce.

10.In the conferences and seminars, organised by India, at national and international levels, Hindi should be encouraged.
