Strong quake jolts northwestern Japan, felt in Tokyo

TOKYO, July 16 (Reuters) A strong earthquake jolted the northwestern Japan area around Niigata prefecture (province) today, public broadcaster NHK said. The preliminary magnitude was 6.6.

The quake was also felt in Tokyo, and a tsunami watch was issued.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
