Portmore School to be developed as model school: CM

Shimla, Jul 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said Portmore Government Girls Senior Secondary School here has been declared as the first Girls Model Senior Secondary School in the state.

Addressing the teachers and students, he said the school had maintained its excellent record in academics, sports and extra curricular activities and qualifies to be declared as a model institutions.

Mr Singh said his government would be identifying one or two senior secondary schools in every district to be declared as model schools where admissions would be available on the basis of cut off marks.

The admissions to the school would only be on the basis of merit and would be taught by qualified and trained teachers, he said.

He said such institutions would be provided quality infrastructural facilities to cater to provide quality education of the students admitted in different classes.

Outstanding students of the rural areas and those belonging to the poor and economically backward classes would be provided scholarships, he said.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a multi-storied modern complex, consisting of furnished ultra modern multipurpose hall, constructed in any educational institution in the state to facilitate single shift schooling completed at a cost of Rs 4.50 crore. Local legislator Harbhajan Singh Bhajji and several other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
