Police constable commits suicide inside police station

Varanasi, July 15 (UNI) A police constable committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle inside the Lohta police station here tonight.

Amlendra Upadhayay (40), posted at the Lohta police station was slated to leave for night duty in a bank at 0000 hrs.

He went to his barrack in the police station premises to collect his rifle, but moments later shot self with the same weapon, police said here.

Amlendra succumbed to wounds on the spot.

A resident of neighbouring Balia district, Amlendra was suffering from mental illness and had also indulged in noisy spats with colleagues and seniors in the past, police added.

Senior police officials, including Police Superintendent (City) Arun Kumar Pandey rushed to the spot.
