Darjeeling, July 16 (UNI): Major parts of Darjeeling hills including Kurseong town remained cut off from the rest of the country for second day today as landlsdies breached some portion of the National Highway 55, that links Darjeeling hills with Siliguri in plains.

A series of landslides, triggered by heavy rains on Saturday night and Sunday morning, caved in road link at St Mary school point, above Kurseong town, disrupting traffic on NH 55 since then.

Darjeeling's Superintendent of police Rajesh Subarna has said that only small vehicles on emergency need were allowed to pass.

However, bus and truck services were still not allowed to move through the highway.

He said road menders are expected to restore the link by tomorrow.
