Kidnapped engineer killed in Asom
Guwahati, July 16: Police today recovered the body of kidnapped Asom Public Works Department (PWD) junior engineer Ajay Deka at Patharquarry here.
Deka, a resident of Borbari under Dispur police station here, went missing since Saturday night after he left for a friend's place.
However, his car was found abandoned in the Panjabari area of the city yesterday, police said.
Dispur police had arrested two persons in connection with the murder of Deka.
City SSP Surinder Kumar said police have confirmed that extremists were not involved in the incident.
Initial investigation revealed that some PWD contractors might be involved in the incident.
This is the third killing of a government official in the state in the past five days.
Earlier, FCI executive director P C Ram, who was abducted by ULFA militants, was killed during an encounter between security forces and the rebels at a village in the outskirts of the city on July 12.
In yet another incident last night, the mine manager of the Cement Corporation of India, K N Jha, died of heart-attack, minutes after he was kidnapped by suspected KLNLF militants along with ten other officials of the CCI at Dillai in Karbi Anglong district.
His body was recovered this morning near the Sonapahar cement quarry, few kilometers away from the cement factory.
