Karan Singh's disappointed at not being Prez candidate

New York, July 16 (UNI) The disappointment of senior Congress leader Karan Singh, at not being chosen as the UPA-Left nomimee for the Presidential Election, was visible during the closing ceremony of the Eighth World Hindi Conference.

Dr Karan Singh, who attended the conference as the Prime Minister's representative, said he was present at the occasion because he was not a Presidential nominee. He also said, ''Whether I become the President or not, I have come here as the ambassador of Hindi.'' He also added that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wanted to attend the conference but could not due to the Presidential Elections. Amid the laughter from the representatives, present on the occasion, he said he was only there since he was not a nominee for the Presidential Elections.

According to reports, Dr Karan Singh was among the UPA candidates for the Presidentship, but the Left rejected the proposal. The UPA-Left later nominated Ms Pratibha Patil.
