Former Bangla PM Sheikh Hasina arrested
Dhaka, July 16: The army backed interim government in Bangladesh today arrested country's former Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina from her Dhanmondi residence.
Three cases of extortion were earlier filed by business companies and one murder case was filed against Hasina by her political rival.
Witnesses said about 300-400 police and elite rapid action battalion raided Hasina's 'Sudha Sadan' residence in Dhanmondi residential area at about 0415 hrs.
After three hours, she was taken by law enforcers but, it could not be immediately known whether she was taken to magistrate court or for interrogation.
There are speculations that immediate past Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairman Khaleda Zia might also be arrested on charges of corruption and abuse of power.
