Eight people acquitted in 2004 twin murder case

Barasat, July 16 (UNI) A local court today acquitted ten people in a twin murder case as charges against them could not be proved.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Baidyanath Bhaduri, pronouncing his verdict in the June 2004 murder of two people at Madhya Haria under Habra police station, said the prosecution had failed to prove the charges levelled against the accused and all were acquitted.

Of the ten accused, charges were framed against two, including Tapas Das alias Bulton, under sections 302 and 34 IPC, while six others were charged under sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, the judge said.

The case was registered with Habra police station following recovery of two bodies - Samir Hawladar and Shankar Biswas - from Madhya Haria in late June 2004 while the accused were arrested in separately.

Bulton, who was on bail in at least 11 other cases, was arrested once again in the twin murder case on July 19, 2004.

Four other accused were absconding.
