Barasat, Jul 16 (UNI) A district and sessions court acquitted eight people, including Tapas Das alias Bulton of Machhlandapur, area in North 24 Parganas in a twin murder case here today.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Baidyanath Bhaduri pronounced his verdict in the June 2004 murder case on charges of murdering two people at Madhya Haria under Habra police station, saying that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges levelled against 10 accused and all have been acquitted.

The charges were framed against two of the 10 accused persons, including Tapas Das alias Bulton, under sections 302 and 34 IPC, while six others were charged under sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, the judge said.

The case was registered with Habra police station following recovery of two bodies - Samir Hawladar and Shankar Biswas - from Madhya Haria in late June 2004 while the accused were arrested in phases.

Bulton, who was on bail in at least 11 other cases, was arrested once again in the twin murder case on July 19, 2004.

Incidentally, four others in the case remained absconded.
