Chennai, July 16 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK General Secretary Vaiko today appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to cancel the decision to coordinate the proposed communication network between the navies of India and Sri Lanka, to avoid repeating the ''unjustifiable wrongs of 1987''.

In his letter to Dr Singh, a copy of which was released to the Press here, Mr Vaiko said he was disappointed to point out that the Centre had knowingly fallen into the ''conspiracy trap'' laid by the Sri Lankan government. It was an undeniable fact that the Eelam Tamils of the island nation had been subjected to the ''brutal genocide'' say the Lankan government.

The Tamils were denied basic human rights and all their attempts for peaceful democratic agitations were brutally repressed by the Sri Lankan military and police, he noted.

Recalling his personal intervention in stopping the Sri Lankan government's move to establish defence cooperation with India soon after the UPA was formed in 2004, Mr Vaiko claimed that the present attitude and activities of the Indian government regarding the Tamil ethnic problem in Sri Lanka had deeply wounded the sentiments of the Tamil people.

Hence, he accused the UPA of betraying Tamil.
