Thane-Panvel direct train service to start soon: Paranjpe

Thane, July 15 (UNI) Shiv Sena MP from Thane Prakash Paranjpe today said efforts were on to start a direct train service to Panvel from Thane to facilitate lakhs of commuters.

At present, there is a direct train service from Thane to Vashi.

Mr Paranjpe said the much-awaited dream of direct rail link between Thane and Panvel would be a reality after completion of work on a small portion of the route.

He said he would convene a joint meeting between the officials of the Railways, CIDCO and other agencies to review the situation and progress on the Thane-Panvel rail route.

He said if the work gets completed by December, then on December 25, the birthday of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, the train services may be started.

He said there is a growing demand to have one more rake on the Thane-Vashi line to clear the rush hour commuter traffic and efforts will also be made to get the same, he added.
