New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) The deficiencies in the services of mobile operators is due to the non-optimisation of the available bandwith with operators concentrating on increasing their network rather then providing quality service, said a top official from communications major Agilent Technologies Inc.

''The network operators are more interested in ensuring that we get connectivity on top of mountains and in the midst of wilderness. However, quality has suffered as a result of this,'' said Agilent Technologies R&D Manager Assurance Services Division Ananda Sen Gupta.

TRAI on July 13, 2007 has said the Performance Monitoring Reports (PMRs) compiled indicate that some of the service providers are not meeting the quality of service benchmarks in respect of some of the Quality of Service (QoS) parameters.

The operators are more interested in setting up mobile towers to increase their connectivity and reach, Mr Sen Gupta said.

He added that this phenomenon was common around the world where the mobile boom takes place rapidly and the situation should improve in two-three years time.

Commenting on the 3G spectrum, Mr Sen Gupta said, although it is a desirable technology the control of bandwith, which is a government subject, has led to a situation where 3G technology has not been able to take off.

However, on the suitability of 3G technology in India, Mr Sen Gupta added that in Europe the technology has not been successful because of the lack of suitable application and the same could happen in India.
