NBA continues to encroach on govt land in MP

Barwani, MP, July 15 (UNI) Sardar Sarovar Project-affected people continued to encroach on about 100 acres of nearby government land for the third consecutive day under a 'Bhoomi ke Badle Bhoomi' (land compensation) agitation.

Narmada Bachao Andolan activists continued farming on the land belonging to the Agricultural Science Centre and State Seeds and Farm Development Corporation. The administration adopted a wait-and-watch approach while still remaining open to discussion.

''Plots are being distributed to the affected people from today under the Zameen Hak Satyagraha,'' NBA leader Medha Patkar said here.

Reacting to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's statement that the encroachers would be evicted, she said Mr Chouhan should study the ground situation and solve the problems of these affected.

''Action has been initiated vis-a-vis demands that can be met at the local level,'' said Collector S K Pal. Two cases have been registered against Ms Patkar and her associates for encroachment.
