MPs go hi-tech with i-mate Pocket PC phones

New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) The country's Members of Parliament (MPs) will soon go hi-tech as they will be equipped with smartphones enabling them to access latest news, e-mail and data storage.

The initiative has been taken by Pocket PC maker, i-mate who will offer PDA phones costing at a price range of Rs 13,990-40,000 to the 300 MPs after a formal approval by the Parliament to select the company for offering the device.

''This is a substantial win for i-mate which is making significant strides in the growing enterprise and government mobility sector,'' i-mate (India) Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said.

As part of its plans to equip its members with mobile technology, the Parliament has selected state-of-the-art next generation i-mate, Pocket PC phones to mobilise 300 ministers, the company said.

These hi-tech Windows Mobile based user-friendly mobile devices will give the MPs access to the latest information, e-mails and help them to store and retrieve any data anytime anywhere, which will help them keep abreast of the latest news.

i-mate out-bid all the other players in the same segment like O2, HTC, HP, Nokia and Sony Ericsson who were in the fray, he said.

''i-mate JASJAR was chosen amongst all the leading PDA, Pocket PC phones manufacturer by a specially constituted 12 member selection committee of MPs purely on the basis of the company's strong track in the Pocket PC segment and JASJAR's rich feature, set and unique form factor,'' said Rana Gurjeet Singh, an MP.

The handsets also features 400 MHz processor for blistering high speed data access and quad band support for global connectivity which makes its an ideal choice for people with a need for constant and fast connectivity like India's Ministers and MP's.

All i-mate devices have a high-level of security to ensure the Parliament's confidential data is safe at all times.

In addition, i-mate will also provide a special training to the users to make them understand all the unique features of i-mate phones so that they can use them with ease and benefit of the full functionality of the devices.
