JU confers doctorate on Manmohan Singh
Jammu, July 15: The University of Jammu conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today. The degree, embossed in golden letters and wrapped in a specially designed paper mache frame, was conferred on Dr. Singh by Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen S K Sinha (Retd) at a special convocation held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium.
This was the first honorary degree received by Dr Manmohan Singh from any university in the county.
Pro-Chancellor of the varsity Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vice-Chancellor Amitabh Mattoo, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, state BJP president Ashok Khajuria were also present on the occasion among other distinguised politicians and scholars.
Earlier, the convocation was scheduled to be held on July 10, but was postponed because of the death of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.
