Jewellery trader arrested for trying to rape minor

Varanasi, July 15 (UNI) A fashion jewellery trader was held from the Dashwashamedh area here today for allegedly attempting to rape a minor.

Vijay Shankar Giri (45) was arrested from the Dashwashamedh area for trying to rape a nine-year-old girl in his shop, police said.

A resident of Bhooteshwar Gali, the girl was going to buy snacks when Vijay called her in the jewellery shop and later tried to criminally assault her.

The minor, however, raised an alarm following which the locals got hold of Vijay and handed him over to police.
