Governor to address the 5th Goa Assembly session tomorrow

Panaji, July 15 (UNI) Governor S C Jamir will address the newly-constituted fifth Goa Legislative Assembly session beginning here tomorrow for two weeks to pass the full budget.

Election for the Deputy Speaker's post is scheduled for July 17 for which the nominations would be received during 12OO-1700hrs tomorrow.

The House had passed a vote-on-account in February last for four months ending on July 31, 2007. The session, with the newly elected members and Digambar Kamat as chief minister, will pass the full budget.

Interestingly, there would be no Question Hour in the first week. There will be discussions on the budget for two days, besides the official business and consideration of some bills.

Legislature secretary T N Dhruva Kumar told UNI that the House, after the Governor's address tomorrow, would adopt five motions to condole the deaths of former prime minister Chandrasekhar, former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, noted cricketer Dilip Sardesai and music composers Dattaram Wadekar and Ulhas Buyao.

For the July 19 Presidential elections, necessary arrangements have been made at the Assembly here.

The private members bills include the one given notice of by SGF president Churchil Alemao, seeking official recognition for Konkani in Roman on par with the Devnagari script.

The MGP also plans to introduce a private member bill demanding official language status to Marathi in Goa.

The BJP Opposition, meanwhile, has decided to grill the government on its alleged failures on many fronts including health care, garbage disposal and price rise.
