Dhannidih 'rape incident: Victims record statement

Shravasti, July 15 (UNI) Victims of the Dhannidih rape episode -- that echoed in the Uttar Pradesh legislature -- today recorded their statement, even as an uneasy calm prevailed in Sirsia area of the district.

The victims, including 24 women and 10 men, recorded statement in the presence of Devipatan Commissioner A K Singh.

Narrating the incident, the victims charged Ashok Mishra, the brother of Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Ayurved Daddan Mishra, with 'instigating' the mob for violence.

Mr Singh said he would soon submit the report to the state govenment.

Meanwhile, the district administration had prohibited political leaders from visiting the village with a view to preventing politics on the issue.

The situation in the area was said to be tense but peaceful.

Police and PAC in strength had been deployed in about 12 villages, including Dhannidih.
