Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, July 15: Continuing its winning spree, the Congress today emerged victorious in the Kandukur muncipality poll in Prakasam district.

Election to this municipality was postponed when elections were held to other municipalities last year as three villages were deleted from the municipal limited.

Out of 30 wards, the Congress secured 15 wards and its ally CPI won one.

The Telugu Desam Party, the main opposition, secured 12 wards and its ally CPI(M) one. An independent candidate winning a seat expressed support to Congress.

With seventeen members in its kitty, the party is sure to get its candidate elected as Municipal Chairman.

Election was held on July 13 and counting this morning.

Leaders of the Congress and aspirants for Chairmanship have already left for Hyderabad for consultations and persuasions.
