Commission for first hand assessment of SCs living conditions
Hyderabad, July 15 (UNI) The Usha Mehra Commission, constituted by the Centre to study the categorisation of the SCs, would visit Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra regions to study their living conditions before submitting its report.
Speaking to reporters here today, Ms Usha, head of the Commission, said the Centre had directed her to submit the report in one year. ''I will visit all states to assess SCs living conditions.'' The response from various organisations in the public hearing was tremendous, she added.
Meanwhile, Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) President M Krishna Madiga submitted a memorandum to the Commission demanding categorisation of the SCs into four groups.
The MRPS would launch an agitation, if the government did not promulgate an Ordinance in this regard before July 22, he warned.
Opposing the categorisation, Mala Mahanadu President K Shivaji alleged that the state government favoured categorisation to ''gain political mileage.'' The organisation would lay seige to the house of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on July 23, if the government promulgated an Ordinance, he threatened.
