Commission begins public hearing on SC categorisation

Hyderabad, Jul 15 (UNI) The Usha Mehra Commission, constituted by the union government to study the categorisation of the scheduled castes, (SCs) today began its 'Public Hearing' at Hyderabad Collectorate, amid tight security.

The representitives of SC organisations, including Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), supporting the categorisation of SCs into four groups in Andhra Pradesh, Mala Mahandu, opposing the categorisation, political parties and several human rights organisations were giving their representation to the commission.

Meanwhile, security had been tightened at the venue to prevent any law and order problem, as the Mala Mahanadu had threatened to disrupt the hearing.

Newspersons were not allowed to cover the proceedings.
