Bijli Nigam's power meter shifting campaign a success

Chandigarh, July 15 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam's campaign to shift the meters out of consumer premises had yielded good results as about 30 per cent increase in revenue assessment in some areas and localities has been observed after shifting of meters.

Giving this information here today a spokesman of the Nigam said that in view of the success achieved in this campaign, field officers had been directed to speed up the shifting of meters outside the consumer premises. The meters were now being installed on poles or public places at suitable locations.

He said that the Nigam had initiated many schemes to minimize the losses, which included installation of energy meters on distribution transformers for energy audit, erection of HVDS / LVDS, rehabilitation of overloaded feeders and regregation of tubewell and domestic load of feeders supplying power to rural areas.

He said that any cut in cable supplying power to the consumer would amount to pilferage. The Nigam had fixed a target of bringing down the losses to 33 per cent from the existing 40 per cent during the current year.

It has been planned to bring down the losses to 15 per cent during the 11th plan for which necessary steps had been initiated, he added.

He said that the Nigam also plans to supply electricity either through High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) or underground cables in all the residential sectors to be set up by the Haryana Urban Development Authority in future with a view to bring down amalgmated transmission and commercial losses. The possibility of power supply through HVDS was being explored in the existing HUDA sectors also, he added.
