K'taka: 16 killed, 23 injured in two road accidents
Bangalore, July 15: Sixteen people were killed and 23 others injured in two separate incidents in Karnataka today.
In the first accident, 14 people were killed, including five women and five children, and two others seriously injured, when a Tata Sumo van in which they were travelling crashed with a private bus near Ukkada Gatri in Chitradurga district in the early hours of today police sources said.
The accident occurred when the two families were proceeding on a pilgrimage to Ukkada Gatri.
The bus driver was absconding.
In an other accident two people were killed and 21 others injured near Bankapura in Haveri district, when a Maxi-cab in which they were travelling collided with a tanker.
The seriously injured were admitted to a hospital here.
The deceased were yet to be identified.
Both the families hailed from Kumaraswamy layout in Bangalore.
Cases had been registered and investigations were underway, police added.
