We need good governance for growth: C Rangarajan

Allahabad, July 14 (UNI) The most difficult thing in India is the transformation of policies into action, former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor and chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, Dr C Rangarajan said here this evening.

''The country needs good governance for growth,'' Dr Rangarajan said while speaking as a chief guest at the Central University Day Celebration in Allahabad University (AU).

The Padma Vibhushan awarder said there were several challenges on the development path, in which fiscal consolidation, managing globalisation and good governance were important.

''Stepping up agricultural growth should be first and foremost priority. Infrastructure development and building social infrastructure are also important issues to be tackled with good strategy,'' he suggested.

Appreciating AU for its rich heritage of education, the former governor of Andhra Pradesh stressed the need for change in the education system.

He also talked about the modernisation of courses as well as reforms in the education system.
