Two pilgrims die in road mishap

Pune, Jul 14 (UNI) Two pilgrims, who were part of a group of warkaris, travelling to Pandharpur for the annual pilgrimage to the holy town, died today near Jejury, about 50km from here, when they were hit by a speeding vehicle carrying other pilgrims.

Sources in the Rural Police control room said the vehicle hit Leelabai Kale and another woman, killing them on the spot. The duo were native of Hingoli district of Marathwada, police said. The identity of the other person is yet to be identified.

The Jejury police have registered a case of accident and further investigations are on, they added.

Lakhs of devotees accompany the palhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram from Alandi and Dehu on the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur, some 220 km from Pune.
