Nagarjunsagar opened to irrigate Krishna delta

Hyderabad, July 14 (UNI) Much to the jubilation of farmers of Krishna delta, Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah today released 1.03 lakh cusecs from the Nagarjunsagar reservoir, following heavy inflows from the upper riparian states of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Irrigation authorities lifted 10 sluice gates of the reservoir to a height of five feet as a huge 3.20 lakh cusecs was received, taking the level to 579 ft, official sources said.

Maintaining the level in Srisailam reservoir at 882.50 ft as against the full capacity of 885 ft, the authorities released 3.04 lakh cusecs.

They stepped up the discharge to 2.85 lakh cusecs from Jurala, following an inflow of 2.80 lakhs from Karnataka.

Karnataka discharged the entire inflow of 2.03 lakh cusecs from Almatti reservoir and 2.19 lakh cusecs from Narayanpur anticipating heavy inflows following heavy rains in the catchment areas in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
