Lawyer cheats client with forged divorce decree

Pilibhit, July 14 (UNI) A lawyer has been charged with giving a forged divorce decree to his client, against her New York-based husband.

Police said here Ravindra Kaur of Puranpur area had engaged lawyer Jogendra Singh, seeking divorce from her husband Lakhvir Singh living in New York.

The lawyer managed a forged divorce decree dated February 12, 2001 from a district lower court and handed it over to the unsuspecting woman.

When the decree was sent here for verification by the concerned Embassy, it was found to be forged.

Ravindra Kaur later moved to the concerned court charging the lawyer with giving the forged divorce decree and taking Rs 40,000 as fee.

The lower court directed the police to register a case against him, but Jogendra moved the additional sessions court for respite.

However, the sessions court rejected his application yesterday upholding the lower court order for filing of a case against him.

Meanwhile, a case had been registered.
