K'taka: Cong to submit memorandum opposing SEZ
Bangalore, July 14: Karnataka Congress will soon submit a memorandum to the Centre to highlight violation of guidelines by the state government with regard to acquisition of land for proposed Nandagudi Special Economic Zone cleared by the Centre recently.
Speaking to newsmen here State party Chief Mallikarjun Kharge said while his party was not opposed to the creation of a SEZ or any other economic activities, it opposed the acquisition of fertile lands from the farmers at a very low price. This was against the guidelines set by the centre and 'we are opposing this,' he clarified.
He said the Centre would be informed about the report of the fact finding committee headed by former minister Kagodu Thimmappa.
The committee was expected to submit its report to the party soon, he added.
He took exception to the Bharatiya Janata Party launching a tirade against the United Progressive Alliance sponsored Presidential Candidate Pratibha Patil and pointed out that Rajasthan Matdata Mandal had also released a 40 questions list agianst Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekawat, who is contesting against Ms Patil, with regard to corruption. The BJP knew about the outcome of the Presidential elections and had hence indulged in 'low level criticism' against Ms Patil, he felt.
