K'taka: CM accuses Cong of politicising SEZ issue

Bangalore, June 25: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy today accused Congress party in the state of politicising the Nandagudi SEZ project issue by misleading the public that JD(S)-BJP led coalition government was anti-farmer.

Mr Kumarswamy told reporters here today that his government had laid down eleven conditions for the setting up of the multi-product SEZ in Hoskote taluk in Bangalore Rural district.

"The Rs 15,000 project would be cleared only after the fulfillment of all the conditions by the Mumbai-based investors," he said.

Denying the statement by Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council H K Patil that the state government was 'looting the land of the farmers', he said the conditions were in favour of the farmers who, if they liked, would be selling their lands directly to the developer for setting up of the project.

Some of the conditions included that the project proponent had to buy the land in the project area directly from the farmers, government will not resort to compulsory acquisition of land, government land will be given at market rates and the company will also submit a rehabilitation policy in detail for those who lose their lands, house and landless labourers living in the project area.

The rehabilitation policy would be examined again by the government for its final approval, he said.

The company would submit to the government a detailed plan regarding fulfilling the water requirement for the project and such a plan would tap water from within the project area only and would not depend on water from river sources involved in the riparian awards, he said.
