Dhindsa for cash awards to Punjab fencers

Patiala, July 14: Punjab Olympic Association President S S Dhindsa today assured that fencing would be added in the list of 29 sports disciplines announced by the State Government for cash awards to the state sportspersons.

"Punjab's men and women fencers have been doing well in the national and international fencing competitions despite fencing being in the initial stage of development in the country," Mr Dhindsa said. "I will speak to Punjab Sports Director Pargat Singh to include fencing in the list of cash awards for the state sportspersons," he added.

Punjab Government has recently constituted a five-member committee, under the chairmanship of Punjab sports minister G S Ranike, which will evaluate the performance of the state sportspersons and will make recommendations for cash awards. Punjab Sports Director Pargat Singh is the convener of the committee.
