Chennai, Jul 14: Banglore-based Central Parking Services (CPS), a division of Building Control Solutions India Private Limited, is planning to set up a 'Command Centre' to manage parking lots across the country.

Talking to newspersons here today Company Director N Sathyanarayanan said "the key to manage parking over next decade is a mix of smart design, innovative technology and professional trained people to make parking a good experience".

The proposed Centre would control various parking bays, including airports, shopping malls, hospitals, municipal pay and parking facilities in the country, he added.

Mr Sathyanarayan said a recent survey conducted by CPS across seven cities revealed that about 68 per cent shoppers consider parking as a major factor for selection of shopping mall to visit and 79 per cent of Corporates, looking to lease space for office, would consider adequate parking as a basic amenity.

The Director said 45 per cent of star hotels-user complain of poor parking guidance and signage on a busy day and 57 per cent of hospital visitors feel, a better organised and convenient parking would go long way in alleviating the sufferings of the patients.

About the shortage of parking space across the cities, he said "while today most municipalities are aware of the problem and working on solving long-term demands, a short-term solution may be, to use unutlised land with the Government and turn them into parking lots to provide convenience to the public".

It is also a means of revenue for the Government without putting in much effort, he added.
