Visakhapatnam, July 14 (UNI) The Andhra University (AU) and Andhra Pradesh State Remote Sensing Applications Centre (APSRSAC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Atomic Energy Commission Chairman and Department of Atomic Energy Secretary, Anil Kakodkar.

Talking to the newspersons after signing the MoU here, Mr Kakodkar said the Satellite-based Information Gathering, Geographical Information System (GIS)-based data analysis and the dissemination of these advisory services through Information Centre for Technology (ICT) would go a long way to sustain Indian agricultural sector.

This would help in improving the livelihoods of millions of farmers and agricultural labourers.

The Federation of Farmers Association's (FFA) Scientific Advisor O S Reddy said the Indian moved from food scarcity to food surplus in the last three decades. This was possible due to the adoption of technology in agriculture and large-scale investments made in infrastructure, especially in irrigation, power, credit and research.

India's 212-million tonnes of foodgrain production was certainly an achievement, notwithstanding the millions of impoverished people in rural areas, he said.
