Army takes up civic action programmes in Manipur

Imphal, July 14: The army has taken up several civic action programmes in Manipur to promote goodwill among relations with the people.

The PIB (Defence Wing) here under 'Save the future generation,' issued a statement on efforts made by the Army in building good relations with the people by undertaking civic action programmes like health camp, tree plantation.

Launched by 27 Sector Assam Rifles, about 100 fruit plants were planted at Thanlon, Churachandpur district.

The programme continued and as part of it each child and woman of the villages of Songpekmun, Thanlon, Dayalkhai and Bukpi of the area were presented with a fruit sapling.

About 1000 Passion fruit saplings, 500 saplings of Lemon, Orange, Pears and Mango and 500 saplings of ornamental plants were distributed and planted.

The programme was launched to make villagers aware of the drawbacks of Jhoom cultivation and to make people adopt better methods of cultivation to save our children from calamities.

To help poor villagers from interior areas, the Assam Rifles had been organising National Integration Tours to various cities of India, including Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Agra, Tezpur etc.

These excursions are primarily to expose the local children to the rich cultural heritage of India and imbibe the spirit of unity in them, the PRO said.

Keeping in mind the adventurous spirit of the locals, 27 Sector Assam Rifles is going to organise an adventure trip to Dzuko Valley, which is a famous tourist spot of Manipur and Nagaland.

The aim of this excursion is to imbibe the spirit of adventure in young students of Churachandpur.
