MP: 4 labourers run over by truck

Jabalpur, July 14: Four labourers were killed on the spot and four others injured, one of them seriously, as a speeding truck knocked down a cycle rickshaw and run over its occupants in Gohalpur area here last night.

Police said Moharia-resident Salim accompanied by four labourers was coming to Adhartal area when a truck knocked down their rickshaw from behind. All five fell on the road and the truck ran over the four labourers, who were killed on the spot.

Three other youth standing on the road were also injured in the incident. Salim, who was seriously injured, was being treated at the district hospital, police said.

Police said the truck was impounded and its driver Vijay Kewat arrested. Agitated over the accident, a group of people attempted to set ablaze the vehicle, but timely intervention by police averted it.
