TN Govt bus impounded in Puducherry

Puducherry, July 13 (UNI) A local court today ordered impounding of a bus of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation for its failure to pay compensation to an accident victim in which a corporation bus was involved in 2004.

According to official sources here, P Arumugham alias Kandan(30) of Periyakalapet near here was returning to his village from Puducherry on a motorcycle when the corporation bus hit him in 2004.

Arumugham, who lost both his legs in the accident, filed a petition seeking compensation in the court of the Puducherry Principal District and Sessions Judge. The then Judge ordered the corporation to pay a compensation of Rs 4.5 lakh in 2006.

However, the corporation failed to pay the compensation forcing Arumugham to file another petition in the same court.

The present judge of the sessions court Krishnaraj ordered the corporation to pay a higher compensation of Rs 5.32 lakh with interest and attach one bus of the corporation if it failed to pay the compensation.

Accordingly, when the Chennai-Nagapatinam bus reached the Puducherry bustand, the court officials impounded the bus after the passengers alighted.
