Light to moderate rains lash HP

Shimla, Jul 13 (UNI) Light to moderate rains lashed isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hrs, the Met office said.

Shimla town recorded 14 mm of rain during the morning after experiencing an unusual dry day yesterday, while Sundernagar was the wettest place in the state with 39 mm rain.

The Met office said Palampur in Kangra district received 30.4 mm rain followed by 18.6 mm at Dharamshala, 12 mm at Una town and three mm rain each at Bhuntar and Kalpa.

Solan town also recorded 6.4 mm rain up till 0830 hrs, it said.

The Met Office has predicted heavy rains or thundershowers at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs with Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner R Selvam advising people not to go near rivulets and khuds as a precautionary measure.

The famous tourist resort of Manali in Kullu district was receiving intermittent rains since morning, while light showers lashed Kinnuar district during the later half of the day.

Reports of rain were also received from a few places in Chamba district, while overcast conditions are prevailing in Lahaul Spiti.

The Met office said the minimum temperature at Shimla rose by a few notches to 17.1 degree Celsius in comparison to yesterday's 16.8, while the maximum remained stationary at 24.2 degrees.

The night temperatures across the state rose by a few notches with Sundernagar recording 23.5 degrees, Bhuntar 22, Kalpa 13.2, Dharamshala 22.7, Palampur 22, Una 23.6, Nahan 24.1 and Solan 21.5 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperature at Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Kalpa dropped two 27.9, 28.8 and 21.9 as compared to yesterday's high of 32.9, 33.2 and 23.4 degrees, it added.
