Four contenders for India Chip Design Centre

Kolkata, Jul 13 (UNI) With the Indian chip design industry poised to touch billion by 2015, West Bengal chip design centre has four contenders.

IT department sources said today that these four contenders namely, Bengal Intelligent Park Ltd of the TCG group, DLF, Infinity and Ramky Infrastructure.

The companies have already submitted Expressions of Interest(EOI) to the state IT department for constructing a chip design centre in the city. The total investment for the project was estimated at Rs 400 crore, sources said.

The developer for the India Design Centre would be finalised by mid-August after which the construction would begin. The state government has set aside Rs 15 crore as venture capital for chip designing companies that will set up base in the centre.

State IT Minister Debesh Das told UNI, ''In order to build an 18-storey building on two acres of land in Sector V will require over Rs 120 crores the rest of the amount will be spent on technology for the centre.'' Last February, Dr Das had made a presentation in Bangalore to the chiefs of around 30 semiconductor companies at a two-day Vision Summit 2007 organised by the India Semiconductor Association. ''We had invited about 30 CEOs from companies such as Intel, Texas Instruments India, Qualcomm, Cadence, Synopsis and Sequence and presented our plan for the India Design Centre. They were excited about the project and a few of them may also set up base in the state,'' Dr Das said.

According to a survey by the India Semiconductor Association and Frost and Sullivan, the chip designing tool market in the country will grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 30 per cent to reach billion by 2015 from Kolkata, Jul 13 (UNI) With the Indian chip design industry poised to touch $36 billion by 2015, West Bengal chip design centre has four contenders.
