Kochi, July 13 (UNI) CPI(M) Polit-Bureau member Sitaram Yechury today said discussions were on to propose a candidate for the Vice-President's post.

Speaking at a 'meet the press' programme here, Mr Yechury said the candidate for the Vice-President's post should have impeccable secular credentials, apart from the ability to conduct the proceedings of Rajya Sabha.

He said the vice-presidential candidate should fulfil the prestige of the office and have maximum acceptability and that the decision inthis regard would be taken after the Presidential polls.

On the Presidential campaign, Mr Yechury said, ''it was unfortunate that the campaign had degenerated to such lows.'' However, he exuded confidence about UPA Presidential candidate Prathibha Patil getting elected comfortably.

When asked on the irregular financial dealings of the CPI(M) mouthpiece 'Deshabhimani' daily, Mr Yechury said the state committee was looking into the issue and would shortly submit a report to the party secretariat.
