Delimitation Commission Extended
New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) The Delimitation Commission set up to redraw the boundaries of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly constituencies has been given a year's extension up to July 31, 2008, it was announced today.
This is the Commission's second extension, the Law and Justice Ministry acknowledged in a statement.
The Commission headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Kuldeep Singh became functional around December 2002 and was initially given a two-year term.
But changes in the Delimitation Act 2002 to incorporate 2001 census data and re-nomination of Associate Members from the 14th Lok Sabha-- owing to dissolution of the 13th Lok Sabha-- posed delays.
The term of the Commission was extended up to July 31, 2007.
