Text books sold as scrap

Jabalpur, July 12 (UNI) A head master, who sold as scrap about 5,000 text books meant for free distribution among poor students under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Jabalpur district, has been suspended.

Though the books were valued at Rs 50,000, Patan's Government Girls School head master R K Pande got only Rs 750 from scrap dealer Ranjit Gujarati, according to District Collector Sanjay Dube.

Alongwith the books, he also sold department's confidential documents including marksheets as scrap.

The scrap dealer was nabbed by the local police here yesterday when he was bringing the textbooks in an auto rickshaw.

Jabalpur Commissioner Anil Shrivastav, who was informed about the seizure, ordered suspension of the head master last evening. A departmental inquiry was also on into the matter, Mr Dube added.
