Ujjain, MP, July 12 (UNI) Following the Supreme Court yesterday staying the hearing of the Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal murder case, the District and Sessions Court today deferred it to August 3.

Prof Sabharwal was allegedly killed in violence at the local Madhav College following postponement of a students' union poll on August 26, 2006.

The CID Investigating Officer V K Vyas was to be cross-examined today. The victim's son Himanshu's lawyer Kailash Nagar referred to the apex court ruling in the court of Judge Girish Kumar Sharma.

''After hearing both sides, the Bench fixed the new date,'' Mr Nagar said.

Six accused, including the then ABVP Madhya Pradesh President Shashiranjan Singh Akela, are lodged in the Central Jail here. As many as 51 witnesses have recorded their statements thus far.
