Maoists blast power sub-station in AP

Visakhapatnam, July 12: Heavily-armed CPI (Maoist) naxals blasted an electricity sub-station in Chintapalli Mandal of agency area of the District last midnight leading to a blackout in several villages in Chintapalli, G K Veedhi and Koyar Mandals.

They also blasted Former Congress MLA P Balaraju's house in the same Mandal. The incidents sent shockwaves among people in 11 agency mandals even as special greyhound police teams were deployed in all agency police stations, particularly in border areas.

The Maoists were reportedly protesting against the proposed bauxite mining project and some encounters in which prominent naxals were killed.

Security was tightened in all Maoist-infested North Coastal districts with night patrolling and vehicle check intensified in the agency areas.

Senior police officials were monitoring the situation and combing operations underway to trace the culprits.
