Local body representatives observe fast

Puducherry, July 12 (UNI) As many as 500 elected local body representatives including 250 women in the union territory today observed fast at the Rajiv Gandhi Samadhi at Sriperambadhur near Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

They were protesting the failure of the territorial administration to devolve powers to them after one year of the civic polls.

The agitation was organsied by the Coordination of Village Panchayat Presidents Associations.

Convenor of the Association Mr Nagamuthu told newspersons that PMC Legislator K Lakshminarayanan inaugurated the fast in which Puducherry BJP President Visweswaran also participated.
